Morning Manna: New Mercies for This Morning

God's mercies are not recycled from yesterday. A short reading on Lamentations 3 and the daily delivery of grace.

Morning Manna: New Mercies for This Morning

"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Jeremiah wrote those words from the rubble of Jerusalem — not from a mountaintop but from the worst morning of his nation's life. New mercies are not a fair-weather promise. They are precisely for mornings that follow the worst nights.

In the wilderness, manna could not be stored for tomorrow; it arrived fresh each day, and yesterday's portion spoiled (Exodus 16:21). God's mercy works the same way. You cannot live today on yesterday's grace, and you do not have to — the delivery is already at your door.

Today's prayer

Father, before my feet find the floor, let my heart find Your faithfulness. Give me today's manna — enough mercy for this day, this workload, this worry. I refuse to borrow trouble from tomorrow or stale bread from yesterday. Great is Thy faithfulness. Amen.
